Daniel and Anne Wells had a successful Internet business in the Washington, D.C., area, with customers such as the U.S. Air Force and AT&T.
But they wanted to move out West.
After searching for homes in Brentwood and the East Bay

Area, they discovered Tracy.
"I fell in love with the town," Daniel Wells said.
And so they moved, buying a home in Tracy and relocating

[DANIEL] WELLS
their 6-year-old
family business, WinBiz, in January. Now they are creating new contacts in a West Coast environment.
While this means commuting to the Bay Area to search for customers, Wells said he eventually wants to be able to telecommute. He remains optimistic.
"There are some good work opportunities - we're still eating," he said.
WinBiz provides database applications, e-commerce Web sites and other computer programs, specializing in customizing programs for their clients.
"It's kind of like the difference between buying your clothes off

the rack at a store or having them made by a tailor," said Anne Wells, who serves as the company's business manager.      Customers can download some non-customized programs off the WinBiz Web site for a free, 60-day trial period.
The Wellses have also created a free community advertising Web page for Tracy businesses called TracyBiz. The site lists about a dozen Tracy businesses with phone numbers and information about each of them. It also provides links to the businesses' own Web pages.
Daniel Wells said he created the Web site as a free directory for Tracy businesses.
"Being an Internet guy, I don't like to have to get the phone book," he said.
Most of the businesses that are listed are the Wells' friends, fellow members of the Tracy Chamber of Commerce or other computer-related companies.
"I think (TracyBiz) could be a good thing once more people know about it," said Jeff Pelletier, manager of Partners Mortgage.
Pelletier discovered TracyBiz after Wells e-mailed information about the site to chamber members. Partners Mortgage has been listed on the site since last week, he said.
Businesses who use TracyBiz can update their information at any time for free.
